Rafflesia buds take 9 months to mature. And when they bloom, the flower will only stay open for 3-4 days before it wilts, so it can be tricky to be there at the right time. Rafflesia may bloom throughout the year; they are non-seasonal. Once you contact us, we will liaise with our native guides to determine when the flower is in full bloom.
Before proceeding with the hike to the Rafflesia site, we will drop by a salt lick to observe some Rajah Brooke's Birdwings. On a good day, you can observe up to 50 individuals gathered together fluttering their beautiful metallic green and black wings. The hike to the Rafflesia site is quite steep and slippery and you are bound to work up a sweat. There may be some leeches on the trail especially during the rainy season so long pants, long sleeved shirts and hiking boots / rubber boots are recommended. We could take a dip in the village river after the hike.
